The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Gordon Sturge can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

The Gift of Fun!

Here's how I remember it. We had gathered in the Y.P. Hall of the old citadel for our Men's Fellowship Christmas party. Most folk had arrived and there may have been music playing in the background but no Gord... Obviously he was running a little late but no one was concerned at the moment. Suddenly the door burst open! A red and white "something" or "someone" shot into the room and like a ball in a pinball machine bounced from person to person, corner to corner, back and forth the room at jet speed! The Elf-like creature wore what appeared to be a "Santa" suit - but it had been stuffed to look like a muscular "Charles Atlas" or should I say a "spinach filled Popeye!" It took us a few minutes to get over the shock and decide that we didn't need to call the police! (Good thing we didn't have cell phones in those days as someone might have done so right away!) The laughter began slowly like an approaching rain shower and soon the whole room was flooded by the tears streaming down our faces as with with great joy we recognized the "Christmas Clown" dancing in our midst! We laughed from deep down, holding our bellies filled with the rush of pure, clean, fun! It was Gord! Not a Christmas has passed since without me, somewhere during the holiday, maybe more than once, having that scene burst through my memory's door and warm my heart yet again as I smile, begin to chuckle, and then laugh! I will ever cherish the moment and the man who shared the gift of fun with us that night! I know, when I least expect it, I'll "see you again this Christmas" Gord. Thanks for your friendship.
