Condolence: We are so sorry to hear of Mr. Wicks Passing. We only meet him in January when my Grandfather/father shared a room in the hospital with him but from that day he was like family to me and my family. He was such a sweet and kind man and was always up for a good laugh and a joke. He sure enjoyed his cheesies, gum and chocolate bars that we often would bring to him. Rip Mr. Wicks I'm sure you will be missed by everyone your heart touched. You were a special man to me and my Family Love the Bath Family

Condolence: Don was a very quiet person, but my memories of him span my entire life. We spent many summer holidays with him and Grandad and Nanny Wicks. Don made everybody feel welcome and it was obvious that family was very important to him. Mom, being his eldest sister, had a special place in her heart for Don. He loved going trouting, and berry picking, and out in boat looking for cod, mussels or seabirds. We loved visiting the shop and seeing him at work. He took great pride in every task he undertook.
This is a sad time for all those who have been close to Don, but especially his remaining siblings, Aunt Marie, Aunt Stella and Uncle Lloyd. We are thinking of the entire family as you gather to say goodbye.
Love to all,
Sylvia, Philip and family

Condolence: Stella and Family,
Our thoughts are with you at this sad time. We know you were very attentive to Don's needs and did all you possibly could during the lengthy period in hospital and at Bonnews Lodge.
My early memories are of visiting Badger's Quay for summer holidays while Granda Wicks had the shop and Don kept everything so organized and absolutely spotless. In later years, he did the same at home, helping Nanny Wicks keep the house just as spotless. Toward the end of her life, he was very attentive to her needs and did whatever necessary so she could remain in her own home.
I fondly remember how happy he was enjoying the outdoors, whether it was in boat fishing for cod, collecting mussels, hunting for salt water birds, making salt fish, berry picking or having a boil up with large family gatherings in Port Nelson or Lumsden Beach. For many years, Don has picked partridgeberries for me each fall and no one else could find or pick riper or sweeter berries!
He will be missed but we have to be grateful that he is no longer uncomfortable or in pain.
We will be thinking of you tomorrow especially and know it will be a difficult day. Take care.

Condolence: I am sending this tribute on behalf of Don's sister, Marie, and her husband, Sam Burton as well as their family, Gloria & Bob, David & Nancy and Donna & Creighton. To us Don was brother, brother-in-law and uncle. Don was very much loved and we are so thankful we had the opportunity last year to visit with him. It had been a few years since we had been back to Newfoundland but one of the best memories of the trip will be of Don laughing and dancing at Saul's birthday party. He was quite the dancer! We wish we could all be there with the family at this time. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and we love you all very much! Rest in peace dear brother and uncle.

He is finally without pain and enjoying his time with family member gone ahead and telling the last news of Pig Island and around the community

You all will be out thoughts on Tuesday and I pray God will enclose you all in his arms and give you strength to carry on day by day.

Condolence: I am so sorry that we could not be with the family during this time of Uncle Don's passing, Uncle Don was a quiet gentle soul, with a big heart. He will be missed by all.

Aunt Stella and family, may fond memories of your brother bring you comfort during this hard time.
Those we love don't go away, they walk besides us everyday, unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

Sending love and hugs to you all.

Condolence: I believe I can say with certainty that nobody on Pig Island or Badger'sQuay had a front bridge as clean as Nanny Wick's and Uncle Cec's when I was growing up. I can see Don through our kitchen window doing this morning, noon and night, sweeping all the dirt even if there was not any. He had a good morning, how ya' doing or a wink and a smile for you whenever he passed our front step or when I walked to the back of the house to put clothes on the line. I remember when both Mom and Dad were not feeling well he would be watching for one of us to come down over the bridge to ask us how they were doing. I am sure he missed them terribly when they both passed. A man of few words but a kind heart. A Pig Island Legend for sure. Rest easy Don - you will never be forgotten.
To Aunt Stella and the Wick's family - may you all find comfort in the days ahead of the memories, laughter and tears shared by all. Hugs being sent to you all from Fort St. John, BC - Susan, Randy, Nicholas and Nathan.
